A mobile extension, also known as MEX, allows the user to use a mobile phone as an extension in the PBX. The benefits are many, as users become fully mobile and can work in the PBX just as usual, regardless of their location.
There are two types of MEX: either a fully integrated mobile via a subscription from Infracom, or you can connect your mobile phone regardless of operator. Both options come with advantages and disadvantages — see below for more information.
Fully integrated mobile Extension with Infracom
With a fully integrated mobile extension in Infinity, your mobile phone becomes a fully integrated device in the company's PBX. All calls, both incoming and outgoing, are routed through the PBX, providing call status to your colleagues, as well as features to change caller ID and activate profiles. Call shortnumbers in the PBX directly from your mobile phones “dialer”.
Operator-Independent Mobile Extension
The advantage of adding a user's mobile phone to the PBX, regardless of the operator, is that users can answer incoming calls to their landline number directly on their mobile device. Additionally, colleagues can see your call status for incoming calls since these are routed through the PBX.
If you use the Infinity Mobile app for outgoing calls, the call is placed via the PBX, allowing you to display your landline number and update your status for your colleagues. To make calls using the app, you need to activate “This device - Callthrough.” More information is available here: Call with mobile client
